Our experience watching the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace was incredible and so much fun! We arrived around 10:30 am and picked our spot along the fence based on who was already lined up along the front row. We wanted to stand behind kids that were too old to be held on their parents shoulders but tall enough to see on their own without climbing and blocking our view. That theory worked like a charm and I will be using that idea to pick my spot in future scenarios.
The actual ceremony doesn't begin until around 11:30 am and so we waited a bit but there really was never a dull moment. It was fun to see the crowds assemble and the law enforcement helping to maintain order.
The famous balcony!
The Guards beginning to prepare. I know that of the things that the Palace Guards are famous for is their ability to keep a straight face. The guard pictured below that paced back and forth between the palace and the fence several times actually smiled at the crowd. Our spot at the fence was literally right where his walking path was.
My favorite part of the entire ceremony was the ten minute jazz concert performed by members of the guard. The music was so patriotic and fun and lovely and enjoyable! They played a Frank Sinatra Song (sounded like New York New York, but I'm wondering if that melody doesn't originally belong to Sinatra???)
I was so lucky to get a picture with the "Bobbies." They were so nice! My sister unfortunately wasn't able to because a huge group started doing selfies with them and so they moved on.
Here are a few pictures from my sister's phone.
